Thank You, Tomppa: Celebrating a Career Defined by People, Persistence and Positivity

Medaffcon’s Sales Lead Tomi “Tomppa” Vahevaara will retire on October 1st 2026. Tomppa leaves behind an exceptionally long career in the pharmaceutical industry spanning 45 years. He joined Medaffcon in February 2017 from a pharmaceutical company CEO position. During his career, he was also actively involved in the work of Pharmaceutical Industry Finland and founded AmCham Finland’s Life Science Group.

At Medaffcon, his long experience has been reflected in an extensive professional network and a broad understanding of industry trends and service solutions. His colleagues believe that Tomppa’s impact on Medaffcon will continue to be felt for many years to come.

How do colleagues describe Tomppa?

Jarmo Hahl: “Tomppa is extremely reliable, persistent and shameless in the best possible sense, meaning he never hesitates to pick up the phone and make a call. He is considerate of others and never tries to make himself the centre of attention, even though he often shares stories from his experience. He is willing to speak up whenever something risks being left unclear. He knows what he knows and what he doesn’t know. He has a humble attitude and is always eager to learn.”

Simo Jääskeläinen: “Tomppa is active, straightforward, forward-looking, quick and fair.”

Heikki Koski: “Tomppa is the creator of team spirit and the person who lifts everyone’s mood. He builds genuine connections with people and can talk to anyone. He is highly social and sales oriented. Fearless, he is willing to discuss any topic with customers and is never afraid of rejection.”

Pekka Männistö: “Tomppa is incredibly productive. He approaches everything with curiosity and enthusiasm, and once he decides to do something, he is remarkably determined. We will miss him.”

A memorable Tomppa story

Jarmo Hahl: “As an external consultant, I was about to onboard a newly recruited employee for the access team when CEO T. Vahevaara suddenly appeared in the room to see what was going on. He wanted to check what kind of company Medaffcon was and whether it was suitable for running such an onboarding session. After a couple of minutes, he disappeared just as quickly as he had arrived. It could have been a perfect sketch for a comedy show.”

Simo Jääskeläinen: “What I remember best are the internal meetings where we discussed various challenges and possible solutions. Whenever the conversation drifted into overly theoretical territory or wishful thinking, Tomppa would become frustrated, and that’s when some very direct opinions would be heard.”

The best sales lesson learned from Tomppa

Jarmo Hahl: “Always confirm the schedule at the start of a meeting and stick to it.”

Simo Jääskeläinen: “What I have learned most from Tomppa is how to create a strong proposal and how to communicate it effectively to the customer.”

Heikki Koski: “Tomppa usually tells sales stories about others, not himself. He is always quick to praise Medaffcon colleagues after customer meetings. In a way, that may be his greatest sales technique. He also had a habit of sharing sales successes. Whenever a deal was closed, he would send a company-wide email with congratulations or a witty comment. It was inspiring to see how success generated even more enthusiasm. In his final full working year, he probably pushed harder than ever.”

Pekka Männistö: “Not every file should be saved on your own computer.”
