Outsourcing Renewal Applications Frees Up Internal Resources

Price and reimbursement decisions for outpatient medicines are always time-limited, which means reimbursement must be renewed at set intervals. Renewal applications must be submitted to the Pharmaceuticals Pricing Board (Hila), for example every 1–5 years. Finding time for renewal applications can be challenging, as pharmaceutical companies typically prefer to focus their resources on product launches.

“At the same time, companies are dealing with an increasing number of internal processes and projects, which leaves less time for preparing renewal applications,” says Simo Jääskeläinen, Market Access Lead at Medaffcon.

Because individual companies only prepare renewal applications occasionally, it can be difficult to build routine and maintain in-house expertise.
